Mission Possible! Building Readers, Mathematicians, and Engineers
Help me give my students phonics and math games to build critical reading and math skills, as well as coding and engineering materials to build budding scientists.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Many of my students are part of low-income, under-privileged families, who have have never stepped foot in a classroom before because they did Distance Learning last year during Kindergarten.
Because it was difficult for young children to learn while doing Distance Learning, many of my students fell behind in their knowledge of important skills that they need to be successful in First Grade and beyond.
Therefore, I need special materials in my classroom that will help them catch up and master the critical academic skills that will set the foundation for great learning this year in First Grade and future grades. Not only will these materials help us through pandemic learning, but they also align with what is expected to be mastered as part of the Nevada Academic Content Standards.
I also need STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) materials so that my young learners can achieve more than just the foundational skills of Reading and Math. I need them to become the next generation of scientists who solve the world's problems.
Thank you so much for your generousity in service to Nevada learners and the future Nevada work force!
My Project
Students in my First Grade classroom will use phonics games and flashcards to master the alphabet, sight word reading, and phonics decoding skills they need to become fluent readers.
They will learn basic coding and building skills to become the engineers and software designers of the future.
They will use games to gain fluency with addition, subtraction, place value, and problem solving to excel in mathematics.
These games will allow students to work together in the classroom so they can master the necessary skills of collaboration in the 21st century.
