Our opening class motto is a quote by Vincent Van Gogh, "I am seeking. I am striving. I am in it with all my heart."
My own motto has become, "I wish I could spend as much time teaching art as I do fund raising."
$0 art budget for over 565 students.
Our school is a Title I school in Mustang, OK.
We have 643 students in Pre-K through 4th grade, most of which cycle through the art room each week. 43% of our students qualify for the free/reduced lunch program. They are some of the happiest, most passionate, creative young people I have ever known. My goal is to make art a positive outlet to channel their energy during this foundational time in their lives.
My Project
We are trying to raise funds to meet our construction paper needs for the year. Students will learn about geometry as they cut shapes for figures and create mosaics. They will study art history as they use this paper for colorful oil pastel drawings, printmaking, and collage. They will experience world culture as they create masks and explore weaving. This paper will also serve as mattes to frame their work during the "Evening of the Arts" where we invite parents to view their work and watch their children perform on stage.
I am blessed to teach in a district that gives elementary students the opportunity to take an art class.
It teaches them patience, hard work, and gives them a healthy outlet for all the overwhelming energy and emotions that come with being a young child. Your donations will provide a variety of colorful projects for the year for some amazing kiddos. It is fulfilling work to see a little face light up with pride when they've created something that seemed impossible at the beginning.
