This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My middle school students receive special education services in math, reading, written language, and social/emotional/behavior. Although my students face many different types of learning barriers, their desire and determination to learn is strong. Their behaviors sometimes interfere with their learning. My students learning differences range from specific learning disability to emotionally disturbed. They respond positively to rewards. My students enjoy playing board games, computer games, and sports games. They learn through play as much as they learn through the general education curriculum.
My Project
I am a special education resource teacher for Baltimore City Public Schools. My students are highly motivated playing educational games and learning through other mediums besides paper and pencil and technology. The games that I chose to be donated will reinforce the skills that my students are learning in class. Many of my students earn classroom dojo points for excellent behavior. The games are part of reinforcing and rewarding their good behaviors.
In addition to playing educational games, my students are also motivated to learn through using the classroom white board.
The individual white boards will certainly motivate my students to complete their classwork. The white boards have many purposes such as checking for understanding, playing games, and motivating learners to complete their work.
