Miss Reinhart's 1st Grade Classroom is Read-y to Read!
Help me give my students books to read! I need to fill my empty library shelves with books of varying topics and genres that will match my 1st graders' reading level!
My students will be coming into their first-grade year after having a good chunk of their Kindergarten year yanked away from them due to COVID-19. I want these bright little ones to have what they need to jump back into school next year and to feel comfortable taking such a big leap from Kindergarten.
My students are sweet, brave, creative, kind, and they are so eager to learn, read, connect, and play!
They come to school so ready to participate and give their best effort, no matter how new or challenging the task may be. I love that they are so excited to learn.
My Project
These books will help my 1st graders explore the world, acquaint themselves with informational topics, come to know and enjoy story-telling, and allow them to increase their vocabulary. They need a print-rich classroom so that they can practice their reading skills and have ample exposure to new and exciting topics! I want them to have a variety of books to choose from so that whenever they go our reading corner, they can expect to find adventure in whatever they pick up. This is such a crucial age for my students to develop and strengthen their ideas, comprehension, and fluency. It is an especially critical time for them because many of them will enter the school year as struggling readers due to the COVID-19 school closures during their Kindergarten year. These books will give them the platform they need to practice literacy skills.
These books will allow my students to learn to make valuable connections in a variety of texts and topics that are at their own grade level.
These books are all near a first-grade level, between A and E, which will aid both those students who read at a lower level, and those who are ready for more difficult texts.
My students love to read and I know that this project will be important for them to be able to read often and independently in my classroom. I want them to soar in language arts this year! They need plenty of grade-level texts to be able to explore books in a positive and supportive way.
I am a first-year teacher so I can't wait to delve into our new library with my first group of students!
