My Students

My school is home to many energized learners who represent a variety of cultural backgrounds. As 6th graders, the students in my classroom are becoming fantastic leaders of their own learning, including deciding how to manage independent work times.

My students are motived to succeed and reach their full potential each day they enter the classroom.

Many students are bilingual and began their young school years in another country. They continue to see the benefits of education for their futures.

My Project

In hopes to continue to support inclusion, this set of books will expose my students to a variety of new experiences. The window books will allow students to read and learn about other cultures or situations unlike their own. The mirror books will act as a point of connection/reflection between the students and characters.

These books include stories of characters finding his or her place in the world, making unsuspecting friends, and from a variety of cultural backgrounds.

Sixth grade students are much more engaged when they are interested in the literature. The books in this project will provide my classroom with more relevant options for literature circles.
