Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

These materials will help transform the appearance of my classroom into one that appears inviting, calming, clean, comfortable, and safe. Currently the paint on our classroom walls is mis-matched and spotty. With the paint I'll be able to get a fresh coat of paint on the walls and create an accent wall at the front of the room to draw attention in. The dark and light blue colors will create a calm ambiance. I chose blue because it will match our tiles, is the school colors, and is shown to increase productivity in classrooms (https://www.thebehaviorhub.com/blog/2020/8/24/classroom-design-with-color-in-mind). The chair and fake grass will help me to create a calming corner with the privacy separators and mental health activities I already have. The bulletin board trim will help me create a cohesive theme in the room.

The reason this project is particularly important for me to do now is because I'll be teaching a special education inclusion class next year.

I picture students using the texture of the grass as a grounding strategy. Neurodiverse students will benefit from the cohesive color theme in the renovated classroom. According to PPG's article Paint Colors For Autsim, "Greens, blues, pinks, soft oranges and neutrals can be very comforting."
