This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students have elected to enroll in the specific enrichment class related to mindfulness and holistic health & wellness. In order to provide adequate movement space, we require individual mats for each student.
The class is embodied in nature, and so after being on our laptops for hours, we get on our mat to check in with our emotions and awareness.
We will practice breathing techniques, gentle movement, and spatial awareness/mindfulness. By the end of the course, students will be able to describe the sequence of asanas in sun salutations, teach box breathing to a fellow student, and discuss the importance and benefits of breath awareness. (Bonus points if students can cite the yogic sources from which we pull: Iyengar's Light on Pranayama and the Bihar School of India's Surya Namaskar book, but not expected!)
