Mindfulness to Help Students Help Themselves

Help me give my students yoga mats and a small blanket to use during mindfulness practice.

My Students

Albus Dumbledore once said, "It is our choices, Harry that show what we truly are. Far more than our abilities."

My students come from a variety of backgrounds.

They are doing the best they can with the skills that they have. They have not had the opportunity to be taught basic skills and are behind on developing healthy interpersonal relationships. Many of them are struggling with school, friends, and life in general.

They are ready and willing to learn ways to help themselves and develop better skills so that they can make better choices in life.

My Project

I plan to use yoga mats at the beginning of each class for mindfulness practice. The blankets are for the students to feel comfortable and also to stay warm.

Teaching mindfulness in class has been shown to support students in positive decision-making, impulse control, ability to focus on their work, lessen worry, and improve interactions with others.

The students in my class have been handpicked by teachers and staff to be benefit the most by learning these skills.

Having to lie down on the dirty floor isn't a good way to relax and focus your mind. The mats will give the students dignity and show the importance of this learning.
