Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work at a STEM magnet middle school in Indiana. This means that my students chose to come to our school to learn more about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

My 7th and 8th graders come from all around the city to form a community where we focus on our core values of rigor, community, relationships, and drive.

My students come from diverse cultures and experiences, and some overcome significant obstacles to succeed at our school. In their two short years with us, they come in as young pre-teens and develop into teenagers prepared to flourish in high school!

My Project

I am requesting 5 student-friendly books about mindfulness for students to use when they need an opportunity to calm down and reflect. These books come highly-recommend and will help students with purposeful and self-guided reflection and meditation when they need it. I am also requesting stress balls for students to use for their physical energy to help them either calm down or focus on their work. Students will have access to these throughout the day as requested.

My middle school students are learning about mindfulness because it matters-- especially in their ever-changing adolescent brains!
