Mindfulness Magic

Help me give my students an Apple 11-inch iPad Pro Wi-Fi for easy access to apps that create calm responses, lower anxieties, and promote student wellbeing, in and outside of the classroom.

My Students

I teach 24 fabulous first graders that are filled with curiosity and excited about learning! They come from different economic backgrounds, and have different ability levels. Some have attended school face to face, some have learned remotely, and some have not attended school at all.

My students' educational experience has been interrupted by Covid numerous times due to quarantines, shut downs and remote learning.

Although my students are extremely resilient, the challenges of today's world can be overwhelming for a first grader. Learning has been impacted, as well as overall well-being.

My Project

Let’s face it, we’re all feeling a little bit anxious these days! This year, more than ever, our students need social/emotional support from trusted teachers and adults in their lives. Providing the necessary tools to help students validate their feelings, self-regulate their emotions, and understand how to release anxiety is a must! When students are taught mindfulness activities, they can use those skills to cope when stressful situations arise. The ultimate goal of mindfulness is to teach kids to have awareness of their emotions and then to learn how to better control them.

Creating a calm down corner in my classroom where students can feel safe and secure when experiencing anxiety and stress would be helpful for my students.

One of the tools in this area would be an iPad where students could access mindfulness activities through apps to regain control of their emotions.

When students are in need of "mindfulness magic", easy access to calming, relaxing and meditation apps can provide them with the social-emotional support they are in need of. Meditation, yoga movements, taking deep breaths, and listening to calming music can help reduce this stress. Luckily there are many amazing apps available to help combat anxiety and reduce stress for students.

Help my wonderful first graders use technology to focus, cope, and "quiet the mind". It is beneficial to teach students to meditate, be mindful and learn to manage their stress in today's challenging world.
