Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are eager learners who are at a disadvantage as they face challenges such as: low-come, culture minority, homelessness and other risk factors. Despite all the odds against them, they can overcome these barriers by providing them with support, love and kindness.

Our school is a Title 1 school which means our school is composed of disadvantaged children who exhibit the greatest need for additional support.

All of our students qualify for 100% reduced lunch based on their low household income.

Several of these students and their families face challenges such as hunger, language barriers and culture disconnection. Our school is composed of 98% Latinos that came as refugees from countries like: Mexico, El Salvador, and Guatemala. They have several basic needs.

My Project

Each item listed will be used to provide my students with a safe environment where they can express their emotions and process heir thoughts. People often assume that the counseling department at elementary schools have budgets to get materials, that is not our case. It is very difficult to provide a place for mindfulness without the necessary tools and materials. These materials will teach my students how to maintain a healthy mindset, express their emotions and stay control of their behaviors. In order for students to have a successful future, they need to have a healthy balance in academic, personal and social components. These materials will help teach the necessary skills to meet the personal and social components.
