My Project

As a new mother of two, life lately has consisted of a lot of time taking care of others and a lot less time taking care of myself. It sometimes felt like I was barely holding on, riding an emotional rollercoaster dealing with the mental and physical highs and lows of motherhood. But with the support of my family, I made a decision to make some time for myself.

This thought frequents my mind often: not "me first," "me too."

I deserve the love and care, too. This is where I found yoga. When my second child was 3 months old, I began daily yoga practice, whether it be first thing in the morning or during nap times. Intentional movement became a priority. And if that wasn’t available on a busy day, I made a point to practice mindful breathing. Grateful every day.

Now as I plan to return to the classroom soon, I’m determined to introduce my students to the same joy and self-care.

Learning how to use this transformational curriculum that integrates mindfulness, yoga, and social-emotional learning practices will help me seamlessly implement these useful practices into our everyday routine in or out of school.

Research has shown that this training results in the following personal and professional outcomes:

- Enhanced overall well-being, physical well-being, and emotional well-being

- Increased ability to manage emotions and overcome obstacles in their way

- Improved confidence in ability to facilitate social-emotional learning practices

- Increased ability to create a relaxed and supportive environment for students

- Decreased feelings of frustration and burnout due to work

In turn, I believe that my students would reap similar benefits in addition to learning self-care such as decreased stress while increasing resilience and therefore productivity.
