I teach in a full day preschool classroom with 24 children. These children live in a low-income area where many of them come to school without proper shoes, jackets, and food. I enjoy working in this area because it is so rewarding. It is remarkable watching my students overcome new obstacles every day. My classroom is like a second home for my students; most of them spend more than eight hours a day with me. They use my classroom as a place for warmth, love, and to escape their troubles. Regardless of what's happening at home, these children come to school cheerful, eager, and energetic to learn and explore new things.
As a teacher, it is very important for me to keep my children inspired, engaged and passionate about learning because these young children are the future.
Your generous donation will remarkably enhance their first learning experience. Thank you for helping me make a difference in the lives of these young learners.
My Project
One of my goals to help my new preschool students next year is to find a place where they can understand negative feelings and cope with it positively. I noticed that one of my struggles from last year was teaching my students to express their emotions. It was difficult for some of them because of the age differences. I have students that are 3-5 years old. It is so much more difficult for the younger students to understand and comprehend vocabulary especially the English as second language learners. This year I want to try something new and exciting with them. I want to teach my students to express their emotions with mindful yoga and I want to teach them coping techniques to help them with transition time as well as their social skills.
The exercises will allow my students to find positive ways to express their feelings and motivate their learning.
I am requesting yoga mats for my students. The yoga mats will provide a safe place for each student to be in their own space as we learn coping strategies to help us with feelings, transitions, and social skills. We will practice mindful yoga at least 3 to 4 times a week during the day. Practicing mindful yoga will also help provide a safe learning environment where every student feels a part of a community. I am also hoping mindful yoga can help motivate my students’ achievements and will help me help my students to understand their behavior as their little mind and bodies grow. I would love your help to help me build and bring a community together within my classroom so we can all grow together.
