My school is a Title I charter in San Francisco. Mostly made up of English Language Learners, our room is constantly working on the acquisition of new vocabulary and better understanding multiple languages through literature.
My room is full of hilarious, genuine and vocal first grade minds, who exhibit a natural curiosity for the ever-evolving world around them.
A typical day looks chaotic and sounds rowdy. We are an active bunch that loves to learn through discussion, movement, and projects. All in all, there is simply nothing typical about this inquisitive bunch.
Mind Yeti is a wonderful website packed with amazing resources that encourage Mindfulness. This is a yearly subscription to a Mindfulness program would be used everyday with my 22 learners. By take a moment to practice Mindfulness and get back to our present, our room has been more relaxed and open to learning.
These guided meditations help us find our center and get back to work.
Our favorite time to listen to guided Mindfulness is after recess and before a test. So far we have been listening to the free practices. While these Mindful tutorials have been helpful, my students want to listen to even more. The subscription, coupled with books on Mindfulness, can truly transform learning in room 249.
