This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am incredibly proud of my 9th-grade students. Each day, they bring a unique energy, resilience, and determination to learn despite their many challenges. As Black and Brown students from economically disadvantaged households, many of them take on responsibilities beyond their years to support their single-parent families. These pressures leave them with little time or space to just be teens, to relax, or to discover creative outlets that could help them manage stress and develop a sense of peace.

This project will provide resources to help my students thrive.

With games, they’ll have opportunities for stress relief and team-building, allowing them to build positive peer connections and engage in fun, cooperative challenges that strengthen social skills and resilience. Art supplies will empower them to express their emotions and creativity, offering a healthy way to release stress and process their feelings. Poetry magnets will invite them to play with language, develop literacy skills, and express themselves freely—a valuable form of self-expression that many of them don’t get to explore outside of school.

These resources will create an environment where my students can relax, recharge, and experience the joy of creative expression, helping them to feel valued and supported in their journey. By providing these tools, we can offer them not just academic growth, but a foundation for emotional and social well-being.
