My Students

My kindergarten class consists of 24 bubbly personalities that are excited to learn every day. They are all filled with joy and care for one another.

They are always ready for a new task and go along with my lessons as I decide what works and what doesn't work; sometimes even jumping around the lessons depending on their interests.

As a new teacher, I would love to get them the supplies they deserve. As part of a STEM school, I strive to give them the best learning they can in this environment. Students are always interested when I provide a hands-on lesson that helps them recognize how these factors relate to their lifestyle. Not only are we learning common kindergarten standards, but they are doing so in a way that they can touch and manipulate to better their understanding. I wish to teach them not only academic learning but emotional learning as well. They are at the perfect age to reflect and learn self-management during class time. I do not have many supplies yet and I am trying to build my classroom as the years go. I couldn't imagine a better class to have for my first year!

My Project

It is important for students to learn self-control skills. It would be beneficial to start these skills at the young age of kindergarten. My students are already practicing yoga and breathing to become in tune with how they are feeling.

Expressing your feelings can be difficult when you are five, which is why yoga would increase independent self-control in my kindergarteners.

Having a class set of yoga mats would increase student participation as it is difficult for us to complete our meditation when they are trying to stay in their carpet squares. Yoga mats would give students their own space to calm down and recognize how they are feeling. It would increase activity in the classroom and help students understand how to express their feelings.
