My Students

Every day my children arrive at school with warm, cheerful smiles filled with the wonder and excitement of four-year-old children. As a teacher, their positive energy inspires me to create fun, meaningful lessons and activities to help them continue to build upon their love of learning.

Our Pre-K Center is located in the heart of Astoria a diverse neighborhood in Western Queens.

The diversity of the community is reflected in the diversity of our students. My students come together to form a beautiful, multicultural community where differences are welcome and celebrated. Each of my students bring something unique to our Pre-K Family at Q397, however one thing they all have in common is they love to learn!

My Project

This year has been filled with many unknowns and inconsistencies for my students. We have switched back and forth from in-person learning to remote learning, forcing the children to have to adapt to the day to day changes at a rapid pace. To help support my student's social-emotional learning during this challenging time, I would like to create a mindfulness area in our school gym.

Our new area will include mats and calming activities which will allow the children to engage with mindfulness techniques including yoga, deep breathing, awareness, meditation, and healthy movement.

These techniques will help the students build concentration and confidence while improving their emotional regulation. Participating in breathing exercises and relaxation techniques will help the children healthily reduce stress. This will set a strong foundation for stress management as they continue to grow. Another benefit of mindfulness is a reduction of challenging behaviors in the classroom by providing a physical outlet for children to express themselves. It will also help teach the children about discipline as they work on clearing their minds and perfecting their yoga poses.
