Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My middle school student testimonies declare that participation in Mindful discussions and activities are essential to their self-worth, mental health and relationships with peers, staff and parents. Students demonstrate a sense of pride and investment in this mindful experience that requires respect for our no phone policy, low respectful voices , organization and cleanliness.

Students engage in weekly interactive mindfulness theme related experiences that focus on depression and anxiety, fathers matter, career goals and strategies, academic performance, racial and social injustice, self awareness and self care as well as communication and emotion regulation.

My students are flexible, creative resilient youth who demonstrate patience and a desire to upgrade the Mindfulness room space to an environment that displays items essential to create a state of the art Mindfulness space from ceiling to floor.

As a group we've researched images of well thought out comprehensive school Mindfulness rooms for tweens and teens. As facilitator, I've worked hard to design and implement an engaging therapeutic experience for my diverse group of students who range from high achievers to borderline students with diagnosis of Learning Disabled, autism, ADHD, ID and emotional disturbances.

The requested items for this project would affirm the ideology that inner city students attending inner city public schools must be valued, affirmed and afforded the same equitable resources as students attending suburban and private schools. My students continue to devalue their education and self worth due to the Systems' inadequate budget.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
