I teach full-day kindergarten at a low-income, Title I school in northern Utah. My school has a diverse population of students, including a high population of English Language Learners. My students are curious and excited about learning. They need to be given the resources, experiences, and opportunities to be successful now and in the future.
For these students, early childhood education and early intervention are critical.
The impact of COVID-19 has created gaps in learning that we are trying to address and correct. I see the need for intervention in academics, such as reading and math, but also in social and emotional learning. Many students were not able to attend preschool programs because of the pandemic and are missing these critical skills to set them up for success later on.
My Project
As a teacher, I need to "Mind the Gap" and engage my learners in high-quality intervention and instruction in my classroom.
My scholars need hands-on, engaging materials to help them learn all the necessary skills for success now and in the future!
I need dry erase boards, markers, and magnetic letters for them to work on literacy skills. I need building materials that they can use to develop oral language and social skills. They need high-interest objects they can use to count, pattern, and use to solve math equations. All of these materials will help my kindergarten scholars to thrive in their schooling!
