Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Even the greatest inventors need the right tools to succeed. The next million dollar app creators only need the right resources to let their creativity shine.

I have one hundred students.

I have fifty seven males and forty three females. Ninety-two percent of the students in my class are on a free, or reduced price, lunch program. Most students come from blue collar working families. We are in a high poverty location. My class is an essential way for them to be exposed to an engineering field. Project Lead the Way inspires students to seek a career in a STEM field. My class has many diverse nationalities, of which 60% are Hispanic, 30% African American, and the remaining 10% are other races. I have students who are English Language Learners and will benefit from the hands-on learning.

My Project

My students are currently learning how to design computer programs with the HP laptops the district provides us with. Many of the students want the freedom to also create apps for Apple. Unfortunately in order to create Apple apps they need an Apple computer and will not be able to use those same HP laptops for this purpose. I am slowly getting resources for them to have a variety of learning tools that will help them learn about computer programming, 3D AutoCAD software, and robotics programming. Getting this MacBook will help get them the tool they need to develop Apple apps. Aside from learning with a variety of technology resources, we are trying to minimize the amount of paper we use by laminating forms that can be used throughout the years.

This project will inspire my students to pursue an education and career within a STEM field.

Offering different options in learning tools can make all the difference on whether a student expresses interest in a lesson or not. I am currently building a library of resources for my students. This project will add another resource to this library and give my students options for their future success. It will also teach them environmental responsibility.
