My students love when I say: \"Okay, Let's roll out!\" They know it means we will be using the rolling whiteboards and we will most likely be working in random groups. We have used the whiteboards to solve math rich tasks. These rich tasks allow students to work collaboratively through different relatable math problems. My students know that when they are using the rolling whiteboards I am looking and listening for math conversations and explanation of their work. In our class we have talked about vertical learning and how it is okay to see what other groups are doing to get ideas and direct us in the right path. \r\n I had the privilege of having all 5 rolling whiteboards built by the time of our Open House. The boards were placed in different areas of the classroom with instructions for the students and parents to direct them through our classroom gallery of work. \r\n We have used the rolling whiteboards in our engineering class to write down our brainstorming for our game design project. Students wrote down all the different things they see in a board game and started to brainstorm possible ideas for their own designs. The rolling whiteboards allow for all students to participate. I make sure to set a timer and switch off the writing responsibilities.\r\n At first my students were not to thrilled about seeing huge boxes taking up their building space but as soon they knew what the boxes held they were more than willing to help with using the rolling whiteboard. We not only used the rolling whiteboard but also used the boxes they came in for building material for our foot orthosis designs we were working on at the time. Nothing not even the trash was wasted in my class. In my class we have had independent, small group, and whole class readings. I use some of the older issues as extras for students to read if they finish early with their work. My students are excited to read about relevant topics that they can relate to. \r\n The students that are stronger in language arts are able to see the reading with the math connections which is great. Those students that do not really like to read are excited to see math and STEM material that we read together. Overall my students are really happy to have these reading materials incorporated to our daily learning. There are three grades of over 600 students who will have the opportunity to use the resistance bands that were donated to my school. My pe classes do plenty of exercises and muscle building using their own body weight but, with the addition of fitness bands, my students have an added motivation to strengthen their muscles using the donated resistance bands. One of the goals at my school is to have my students appreciate fitness and help my students develop a love for life time fitness so they may stay healthy for the rest of their lives. With the resistance bands, that helps the pe department meet that goal.\r\n As with anything donated, something kind has been passed forward to every student who is using and who will use the resistance bands. Even though the donors may not see the result of their gift, The donors have made a difference and impact for my students for the rest of their lives.
