Help me give my students the supplies necessary to participate in our school-wide Garden Program! Each of our 700 K-5 students has garden classes throughout the year. These materials help facilitate their hands-on, experiential learning in the garden!
The Garden Program was started in 2010 with the goal of providing hands-on experiences and education to our students in an outdoor garden classroom. 14 years later and we are still going strong, and in fact have expanded not just the garden itself, but educational opportunities to over 700 students K-5! As the program grows, so too do we need to adapt to meet the needs of our intrepid gardeners. Our Garden Program relies exclusively on fundraisers, grants, and generous donations from our community to fulfill our needs, anything helps!
Gloves are one of the most important things to have in the garden, some of us like to get our hands dirty, but that shouldn't be a barrier to playing, planting, and picking.
While our hands may be our most valuable tools, we also need shovels, rakes, trowels, and pitchforks to create a beautiful and productive space. Everything that we produce in the garden throughout the school year goes directly to our cafeterias or students in need, a small greenhouse space would allow us to start more veggies early in the season to meet the demand of our active students!
We of course cannot forget about our native pollinators that we rely on for most of our crops, without them we would just be growing ornamentals! Bee homes provide an essential nesting site for the tiny tireless workers that are so often forgotten.
We are in the midst of a major expansion of our garden which includes a 2,500 sq ft native meadow, 200 ft of new fencing, 9 varieties of fruiting shrubs, installing mini ponds, and adding a beehive to the property. None of this would be possible without the generous support of donors inside and outside our community.
