Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a Speech-Language Pathologist in an elementary school. My current caseload is made up of more than 55 elementary students who are eager to interact verbally and develop their communication abilities during individual or small group therapy sessions.
Many of my students have articulation goals targeting improved production of specific speech sounds, such as R, L, S, SH, and TH.
Correction of these persistent speech sound errors is often difficult for many students despite excellent effort and motivation. They benefit from visual, verbal, and tactile prompts, models and cues.
My Project
Providing a safe and healthy learning environment is more important than ever during this ongoing pandemic.
The requested items will provide a variety of multimodality tools to address my student's articulation goals in a safe and healthy manner.
The Speech Buddies are bendable tools designed to teach correct tongue placement of specific sounds. These will be perfect teaching aids for my students who are struggling with proper tongue placement and are making limited progress. The large portable mirror will be used to provide visual feedback while practicing targeted sounds and the mouth model will be used for hands-on learning and demonstration of proper tongue placement. The gloves, rubbing alcohol and tongue depressors will help maintain a safe and healthy therapy environment. I know my students will be so excited to use these new products and I can't wait to see the pride and joy on their faces as they master their communication goals!
