Help me give my students the hands on materials (games, markers,puzzles, and organizing drawers) they need to understand math concepts and improve our word work.
My students are high energy, wonderful students! About 98% of my students qualify for free/reduced price lunch. These kids love reading great books, and working with high interest materials. We have the most fun and are the most productive when we get to work in teams for math, reading, writing and word work! They enjoy setting goals and working hard to achieve those goals. They are always looking to be their best!
These kids have been working all year on being a team.
They really understand that we are all unique and have something truly special to offer this world. My children come from a wide range of family structures, and some face serious challenges. This year, one of my students lost everything in a house fire. Within days, our school community rallied to their aide with clothing, house-hold goods, and furniture. It's just how our school family operates...we take care of one another! Through our mixed-ability groups, my students have learned that everyone needs help at times, and we can all work together to be a community of learners.
My Project
The hands-on materials are really essential for many of my students to grasp difficult concepts in math and in word construction. The ability levels in my two classes range from 1st-9th grades. My special education students need these types of tools to help them at their level, while the students who are working above grade level need them to understand concepts that will keep them moving forward in their learning.
Children need to use manipulatives often when they are learning new concepts.
It helps them to formulate concrete understanding as they progress in all content areas. I also included games that my students can play that will enhance their skills academically and socially. These materials will help every single student I work with to achieve their best!
