My Project

My students are in elementary school and have an Autism diagnosis, in addition to speech delay. My students are very special. They are trying to navigate a world without the ability to functionally communicate and with sensory integration deficits that can pose a challenge for them, yet they are curious and eager to learn. They are learning socially acceptable behaviors while engaging in play therapy, such as sharing, taking turns, using play items functionally and pretend play. The sound effects puzzles will help my students expand on their cognitive and fine motor skills as they try to figure out which puzzle piece goes where. The sound effects will help with language development as they repeat the puzzle piece sounds and identify the puzzle pieces. The doll and her accessories will foster pretend play by feeding, bathing and putting baby to sleep. The baby will also help my students develop empathy skills as they try to comfort baby when she is crying. The scented markers, are a tool that will be used to enhance the coloring experience with aroma, when presented with a coloring activity.
