My students need 20 copies each of the Magic Tree House "Midnight on the Moon" and "Space" books, Modeling Moon Motion Lab , and teacher resource books to learn more about phases of the moon.

My Students

"The tree house started to spin. It spun faster and faster and faster. Then everything was still. Absolutely still.” Have you ever gone on an adventure to the moon? Me neither! But Jack and Annie have traveled to the moon in the Magic Tree House series of books.

I would like for my students to join Jack and Annie as they explore the moon!

I teach a great group of gifted students who challenge me every day! The challenge for me is to find materials that will stimulate my students to want to dig deeper and go beyond the curriculum they are learning in their homerooms. Having materials that will help me take the students deeper will help me challenge them.

My Project

Learning about the phases of the moon sounds like a simple task. We see the moon most nights and watch it change shape. But have you ever tried to learn the vocabulary? Gibbous. Waxing. Waning. Crescent. Really? What were the scientists thinking? Can you imagine trying to teach these words to elementary aged students? Well that is part of my job! The students love learning about the moon, but it is often a difficult task. By using the Magic Tree House book “Midnight on the Moon,” I will be able to stimulate the students’ interest in space. We will use the Magic Tree House “Space” reference book to help us go deeper. The Modeling Moon Motion+Phases Lab will enable the students to use a hands-on model to figure out how the phases occur. Space themed centers will be created using the “Take It to Your Seat: Science Centers.” To allow those students who want to go even further, I will use the “Read and Understand Science” book to provide space topics written at their reading level.

You can help my students become the next Jack or Annie, but my students may really have the opportunity to travel to the moon.

You and the Magic Tree House can help me to inspire the next generation of NASA astronaut! Maybe one of my students will spend “Midnight on the Moon!”
