My Project

Middle School can be challenging and crucial time in an adolescent's journey. Adolescents can be burdened with academic, home, and peer stressors. With adolescent mental health issues and suicides on the rise, schools are taking initiative to address stressors and mental well-being in the school setting. Most often, recess doesn't follow middle school students from elementary at a time when they experience many bodily changes and need freedom of movement. With those changes, middle school students' physical and mental well-being needs to be tended to.

The furniture items, like cabinets, flex seating and a carpet within this project will help create a space where students can move freely, experience breaks in a supervised setting, utilize flexible furniture to de-escalate and/or de-stress.

Unmanaged stress can have a substantial impact on a tweens/teens long-term physical and mental well-being and mitigating this stress during this age and stage of development can be critical to the prevention of chronic conditions such as depression. If students can successfully learn to calm or regulate, they will be more successful during the school day. The items from this project will set the stage for a tranquil space, with calming nature scenes, to tend to the sensory as well as the mental well-being needs of our students. Please consider helping to start our very own "Wellness Den."
