I can teach my students through a social emotional learning curriculum in classrooms as well as in groups and during individual sessions, that gaining breathing strategies is essential to composure and self-regulation in the classroom as well as in their futures. I will use the supplies from this project to assemble multi-sensory tools for students to learn to take a deep breath in through their noses as they smell the flower and then blow the air out of their mouths to make the pinwheel spin. This tool is helpful for teaching children to fill their lungs fully and exhale completely in order to ensure they are deep belly breathing. Three deep belly breaths disengages the stress response and can help students increase their social emotional health! These tools can be especially helpful with students who come to school from traumatic homes and/or experiences as well as students with special needs in order for them to be ready to learn!
