Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students submit a lottery application to attend our public charter school. This means they represent every corner of our city and therefore, bring a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and challenges to the classroom. Any donation to our school would be a contribution to our community.

If you want to know about our school or the kids, I would invite you to come to lunch because it is the picture of what a school is supposed to be.

The culture is one of acceptance and diversity. Students learn who they are here and are not afraid to express themselves. Tough kids soften. Shy kids find their voice. All kids learn. We've been described as a scrappy little school because we get second hand furniture and are always having fundraisers for sports jerseys or field trips. What I love about these kids is their willingness to try and their support of each other.

My Project

Middle School science students study properties of matter in this hands-on exploration which they absolutely love to do at school. One of the biggest challenges in setting up a proper inquiry based lesson is having all of the materials in all the right quantities for a complete experience. This STC kit comes highly recommended from a discriminating, fellow teacher so I trust the product.

I am inspired to meet the Next Generation Science Standards using these activities with my students.

Kids need to see it happen in front of their own eyes instead of reading about it in a book. After they have done it themselves, reading about it in the book is much more interesting and they are eager to learn more.
