Middle School Math on the Move

My Students

I teach curious and creative seventh graders at a culturally diverse Title I middle school in sunny southwest Las Vegas. Students often express having trepidation about math and have trouble connecting their curiosity and creativity to their math journey. I work alongside students to create an engaging and interactive environment to help every student feel successful. On any given day, students may be working in small groups, at the white boards solving problems, or participating in math scavenger hunts outside.

It is a truly incredible to witness students overcoming their apprehension, having fun with math, and being invested in both their learning and their peers’ learning!

My Project

Dry Erase markers are used at least 3 days a week in my classroom in a variety of ways. Students participate in Math 360, which allows everyone to have a spot at the whiteboard to complete their daily work. It provides students the opportunity to collaborate with their peers and allows me to provide students feedback more quickly. Students utilize the individual white boards at their seats or outside, and the dry erase pockets allow me to save paper by only printing a class set of an activity, rather than one for each student.
