My students love expressing themselves through art and drawings.
I currently teach Pre-K in a Title 1 school in Brooklyn, NY.
More than 60% of our students come from low-income families. Many of my students are not fortunate enough to be exposed to many life experiences that many of us take for granted. Because they are not fortunate enough to have these experiences, due to parents working minimum wage jobs, many more than one, my students lack expressive vocabulary. It is easier for them to share their thoughts through drawings and art projects. I have noticed once an art project is complete, many of my students then have the confidence to talk about our theme.
My Project
My students will use journals for different responses through literature activities. They will also use the journals to start learning the writing process. Art materials and kits will be used for various projects and activities related to thematic units being taught throughout the year. Lace boards will be used to help children develop their fine motor skills.
Due to many budget cuts in education, we are not given supplies necessary to help children achieve their maximum potential.
