My Students

Every morning, an excited group of curious, hardworking first graders walk into my classroom ready to learn. They lead activities, take responsibility for the classroom, and help students who are struggling. They celebrate their "growing brains" and applaud the growth of others in the room.

My students do not lack the drive they need to be successful.

However, attending a Title I school in West Baltimore means that sometimes they do lack the materials and resources they need to truly thrive in the classroom. These passionate, excitable students deserve a high-quality education. Please help us provide this for them.

My Project

After being home for a year and a half, my first graders are excited to be back in the classroom with their friends. The first-grade curriculum is very rigorous and does not allow as much time for play and exploration as my students need.

In order for my students to thrive, they must be able to find joy and excitement in learning.

This project is designed to find ways to incorporate play within our learning. Play-Doh helps build sensorimotor skills and can be used to make sight words as well as teach subtraction. The different math centers will give kids opportunities to independently explore math concepts while I pull small groups. The stuffed animals become their "reading buddies" as they practice reading fluency, and the witch fingers help them practice tracking words on the page as they read. Finally, the KN95s are to help keep us safe in light of the Omnicron variant.
