Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our magical pre-k classroom is in a low-income/high poverty district. The students in our class receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. My students have a yearning for learning all types of subjects. I hope that their school experience will be as memorable as possible. Each student is positive and unique in their own way. They are intelligent and always motivated to participate in new skills. Each student is engaged in the lessons and they love enjoying hands-on activities. Curiosity and creativity is on their mind when building new knowledge.
These wonderful children enjoy doing hands-on activities.
They love to sing and dance with songs and finger-plays, and they like reading/listening to all types of stories. I believe that Pre-Kindergarten is the key foundation to learning and growing. When each child comes into the classroom, I want them to feel comfortable and safe in this environment. Their learning school experience is set in a positive, engaging and creative way where I, as a teacher, hope to help each child choose the right path into education and make it as meaningful as possible in their lives.
My Project
These materials will make the class enjoy learning and make it fun for each student to improve in reading because when students are arriving to class they know the moment they walk in it is time for Meet and Greet where message board will be displayed for students to use dry erase boards as a whole group and decide on the question given to the class. For example, the question may be on a Monday and the teacher would verbally say, "What did you do this weekend?" The child may draw a picture of what he/she did during the weekend. When it is time to present or pick volunteers to come up to the front of the class. He/she can display their creative drawing board and use the microphone to explain what he/she did on those given days.
These are low-income students who have a yearning to learn and as a teacher I want to see my class grow academically even if it's by using fun materials like these to make each child motivated in the lesson and engaged to come up to present their creative work.
Also the materials for the letter vests will be perfect for Big Experience 1 where each week we learn a new letter and the child is able to volunteer and feel special by wearing the specific letter vest of the week. As the year passes by, students will have successfully learned all their letters and sounds and then we would be able to make mini-lessons using the sounds and letters of the alphabet to make words (whole group).
