My students need a class set of micro:bits to help us meet and exceed the computer science standards. Beginning in kindergarten, students at my school receive technology instruction twice a week.

My Students
I teach Literacy Technology to over 300 students in kindergarten through fifth grade, in an urban school. My students come from diverse backgrounds and the majority are low income. We are the largest charter school in New York State. Our motto is "Every Day is Career Day".
Career preparation begins at my school in kindergarten where students are exposed to different careers as well as the skills needed to enter the "world of work".
I see my students twice a week and we work on 21st century technology skills. The skills my students gain today will help them be successful tomorrow.
My Project
Having a class set of micro:bits would allow my students to experience real world computer science.
These small devices allow students to move from basic blockly coding on the computer screen, to using Java Script to code.
Students are able to create anything from a timer to a small game. The possibilities are endless with these tiny personal computers!
Micro:bits boost: engagement, learning retention, computational thinking, prepare students for employment, provide opportunities for collaboration, help students solve real-world problems and get inspired.
Having a class set of micro:bits would take our computer science and coding curriculum to the next level.
