My second graders come from a rural community. A lot of them don't have the experiences and background knowledge to aid in their writing. They are excited about writing and their writing has improved greatly over the past few months. However, they need models of exemplary texts to aid in making their writing even better. So far, our school library hasn't had any of the suggested text to use. We need mentor text to guide them in this process and help them to become expert writers.
My Project
My students are struggling writers. They have improved but still need to see model literature in order to enhance their great work. By diving into author's craft and word choice from these texts, I am hoping to increase their love of reading and encourage their curiosity through writing. What better way to increase vocabulary, grammar, comprehension, confidence, and listening by having these exemplary texts as a model! We will use each of these texts to guide us through the writing process. Ultimately having a published piece from each genre of writing. I can't wait to see their gowth and these books are what we need to get there.
