This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Cell phone addiction is real and the distractions they cause in the classroom directly lead to learning loss, bullying, or other off-task behavior. My students are mostly refugees and many qualify as homeless. Although they are issued school computers, they do not come equipped with headphones, and some of our software requires them. Also, they are scheduled into two blocks of English Language Development daily, which leaves no room for a fun elective like art, so I built art into my curriculum every month, as well as implement other activities like daily meditation to help students learn to relax and feel safer in the classroom. Supplies like a utility cart and storage box, and charging station will allow me to more easily collect cell phones, charge school-issued computers, and create more time for team-building and artistic activities that cross cultural and language barriers.
