I teach in an area where the socio-economics are alarming to say the least. The children come from circumstances that would stop an elephant in its tracks but somehow they persevere and excel in their learning. I teach a S.T.E.M. based after school program that is always in need of supplies. Help!
My students reside in Metropolitan Atlanta, GA.
They are full of life, energy, and an insatiable want to learn. My students are like any other child in America. They are what we as adults pump into them. My duty as their Science / S.T.E.M. teacher is to expose them to higher levels of thinking based on 21st Century Learning Skills. I do that through the use of project-based activities that force them to use the necessary skills of collaboration, creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship. My students light up when they enter my room and see that there is much learning ready for them along with cool supplies and gadgets to enhance the learning. We have outlawed the use of worksheets in our class. I have started a 21st Century Learning Skill after school program to serve these very children and build on what I have begun in the classroom. I'm excited about my new business and what it can provide for each one of my students. Please help us any way you can. Thank you!
The MS Surface tablet will be used by both the teacher and the students. The students are technologically challenged and do not have access to functional laptops, tablets to use at home. I plan to have as much usable technology as I can available to them at my program to give them the exposure as much as possible. We will use it specifically as a presentation and display tool for various projects and activities. The Science module will be used to enhance the daily curriculum taught to the students each week. It is packed full of project-based activities and resources to keep our students excited about how Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math are all connected and vital to the education of the whole child moving forward in the 21st Century.
Donations to this project will make a huge difference because what the community I teach in needs most is resources.
My home school has great teachers and students. What is needed heavily are ways to enhance the learning that takes place during the school day. Having materials such as these will ensure our ability to provide exceptional programming and to assist our home schools in advancing each child's ceiling of learning. We want to meet the children "where they are". Thank You.
