My Project

My students are avid learners but lately I have noticed they are not utilizing their tried and true skills to do the necessary steps to accurate problem solving. They are caught up in the fast paced world we reside by trying to take short cuts or do the steps as fast as they can so they can move onto something more 'exciting'.

New math manipulatives hopefully will encourage them to slow down and do the steps necessary to practice and solidify their problem solving skills.

Doing math on paper isn't as exciting as doing it on 'electronics' (using the LCD boards) or using new math tools like clean well marked rulers can make these simple steps more engaging. Having large clean examples on the whiteboard (whiteboard grid and math tools) to demonstrate or show off your skills to others, is a great motivator to do well and take your time to be accurate. We love to celebrate math in our room through special days like Pi Day (3/14).

Thanks to your support the 3-5th grade students across four schools in Kansas will have access to some new motivational math manipulatives to create memories!
