This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am an educator who works at an equity-focused school. Over the past couple of months, we have had various newcomer arrivals.
As educators, it is crucial that we make our students feel welcomed and supported, especially those who are new to the country.
This project aims to provide comprehensive resources to empower our new English Language Learners on their language acquisition journey. My students will need various learning resources such as a Teachers Pays Teachers (TPT) gift card, Crayola Colors of the World crayons, shades of Me construction paper, identity-affirming books, bilingual alphabet and numbers workbooks, and bilingual educational toys.
The TPT gift card will serve as a resource for purchasing English language learning materials such as vocabulary-building activities, interactive grammar exercises, and identity-affirming crafts. Crayola Colors of the World and Shades of Me Construction Paper will be used by all students to celebrate the diverse spectrum of skin tones. This will allow my students, especially my newcomers, to feel a sense of belonging and pride through art and creativity. My students will use the identity-affirming books featuring characters from diverse backgrounds during our small group rotations so that it not only expands their English language skills but also so they can see themselves represented in the stories they read. Lastly, the bilingual workbooks and educational toys will contribute a hands-on learning experience that provides support and scaffolding, allowing my newcomers and ELLs to make connections between their native language and English.
This project will provide wonderful ways to support my newcomers not in learning the English language but by making them feel embraced in our classroom! Thank you for your support!
