My Project

Our school is rapidly embracing a growing ESL (English as a Second Language) student population. So many of these students feel isolated due to their inability to communicate with fellow students and teachers. As a Media Specialist, I see the need as the students struggle to participate in reading activities. It is so disheartening to watch ESL students search the library for material to read and engage with their fellow students. I would like to provide popular titles that they could read and then share the same stories with their English speaking classmates. Inclusion is pivotal to a successful learning process.

The request for the English/Spanish dictionaries are not just for my ESL students but for my English speaking students to better aide them with cross communication.

By increasing the Bilingual material available in the library, it will not only help the students but in many cases the parents benefit also, as they often rely on the children to translate. This gift will strengthen communication and community unity.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
