My Students
As a teacher in a low-income school district, I often see kids that come from broken homes, kids that are full of anger or worry, and kids that just need a safe place/outlet where they can feel safe while letting their frustrations out. I am a returning Special Education Teacher after spending three years in regular education. Working with little ones that haven’t gained the skills to regulate their emotions and behaviors is heartbreaking. Being able to provide desirable, hands-on materials is much needed in our classroom. They deserve a safe, fun, and loving learning environment!
My Project
The majority of my students come to school hungry and school lunch doesn’t keep their bellies full. It is difficult to teach a child when their basic needs are not being met. In order to keep from embarrassing them in the regular classroom, my resource room will be able to provide them a safe place to get food. These snacks will allow me to send bags home over breaks to ensure they have something to eat while they are away from school. I hope to be able to send bags home for Christmas break!
