Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are amazing, creative, brilliant middle schoolers! I work with sixth graders as a restorative discipline counselor supporting students in their social emotional and academic growth.

We are building and growing our community relationships through small group meetings, one on one counseling and focused, supportive whole student education through wrap around services.

My Project

This year we are experiencing new challenges due to our second year in Covid-19 pandemic. Many of those needs are adapting curriculum online so students do not fall behind when they have to quarantine due to exposure or contracting Covid. Moreover, as students are transitioning this year to in person, and as covid continues to affect their opportunity to have consistent in person education, there are many students learning to acknowledge and develop skills to address to their socio-emotional needs.

This project aims to meeds basic needs with fidgets and snacks, and missing class materials such as headphones in order to support their well being and with the flow of instruction.

This is particularly important for students in Deep East Oakland who are facing socio-economic disparities prior to the pandemic and are further impacted by today's realities.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
