Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Many of our students and athletes come from low economic households and nearly eighty percent of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Although we hold fundraisers throughout the year, team gear has been wearing out through the year and we are in need of new items as soon as possible. Asking students and their families to take time out of their busy schedules, on top of the other events we already ask them, to fundraise even more would be unfair.
My student-athletes work very hard throughout the year to prepare for the upcoming season.
This includes AAU tournaments throughout the Spring and Summer, 6 a.m. morning workouts, and practices throughout many of their vacation days. Their dedication to the program and their work ethic is remarkable.
My Project
The items we are requesting will go in our brand new plyometric workout room located in our new gym. These items will be used in workouts that help add resistance to different types of exercises we do to become more explosive. All of the students in our program will be able to use these materials for years to come. The medicine balls can also be used to strengthen the core of many of our athletes as well as improve their overall balance, which is essential for a good basketball players.
The more equipment and resources our athletes have access to, the stronger and better conditioned we should be.
We hope that by having these items, it will translate to stronger play on the court.
