My students need meter sticks, rulers, tape measures, and a primary measurement kit for the Measurement Unit in our curriculum.

My Students

Measurement Madness! Children love to measure things, whether it be their arms, legs, desks or chairs. Do you remember the first time you helped measure something? I want to bring my students around the school and let them go Mad over Measurement! They can measure anything their heart desires.

My students are great!

I hope to see them become successful someday; however, in the community my students are from their chance is extremely low. My students want to be able to go out into the world and have the same opportunities as everyone else. When doing activities they become involved and their minds begin to work on overtime. Our school is in a high poverty community. My students don't have school supplies (pencils,paper,calculators)and I often purchase these materials on my own. Having to attend a poverty level school (0ur school is 60% free/reduced lunch) is difficult due to the lack of supplies, community involvement, and parental guidance. It is up to me as a teacher and others in the community to assist these students who will become our future.

My Project

The Measurement Unit Description states: This unit is an advanced study of measurement. It includes the topics of precision and accuracy and investigates the relationship between the two. The investigation of absolute and relative error and how they each relate to measurement is included. Significant digits are also studied as well as how computations on measurements are affected when considering precision and significant digits. The Student objectives are: 1. Students should be able to find the precision of an instrument and determine the accuracy of a given measurement. 2. They should know the difference between precision and accuracy. 3. Students should see error as the uncertainty approximated by an interval around the true measurement. 4. They should be able to calculate and use significant digits to solve problems. This material will change my students lives by allowing them to have hands on measurement activities that they wouldn't normally have.

I will be able to do activities such as comparing precision/accuracy, measurement scavenger hunt (around campus), to determine the precision/accuracy of different measurement tools and to use the tools to measure and determine the measurement of error.

Ex. we live in a high risk hurricane area. Students have to work on roofs, houses and whatever they can to make money for their families during this time and this would def. help!! This would affect the their livelihood!
