This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and I would like for our students to have the opportunity to create their very own Mental Health Garden. Flowers and gardens have given people great joy for centuries. If this grant is funded students will have that very chance.

Students will give to the garden as well, each student will be asked to bring a flower for the sun to give to the garden.

Students will come out and assist with planting flowers and maintaining the upkeep of the garden. Students will also take part in whole-group counseling sessions about the importance of maintaining a healthy mental state. During those whole-group counseling sessions, students will talk about the connection of taking care of the plants in their garden so that they will thrive and live. The same care and concern have to be directed towards maintaining their mental health.

Students will chart their mental health and be taught coping strategies to help manage their emotional behavior.
