Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are so excited to be back to school; however, they have lost a lot of social and emotional skills this past year. Students who were once extroverted have become more introverted, my risk takers have become silent watchers, and a general reluctance to try or experiment is looming over my once very creative classes.

My Project

These materials will be used to begin an Academic Olympiad Competition among our middle school homerooms.

Last year was very difficult on some of our students, a as a result of virtual learning, my students have become less extroverted, less willing to take risks, and sadly, less willing to work together.

I needed to find a way to bring them back out of their shells!

I will be using these materials to begin an ongoing science/STEM competition among homerooms to foster excitement, creativity, collaboration and cooperation. It is my wish I will be able to make this happen in other subject area and hopefully district wide. My students need to relearn that they are filled with individual ideas and creativity. I
