May the Force Be with You

Help me give my students hands on activities using magnetic Building Tiles of all shapes and sizes. They will investigate how forces act on objects. They will determine the cause and effect relationships between two objects.

My Students

My school is a Title I school, and because of our financial situation, I use DonorsChoose to help give our class the supplies they need to learn with.

My students are active hands-on learners.

They would appreciate magnetic 'toys' that teach how forces are exerted when objects come in contact with each other, or even without actually touching.

Our new SEEd Standards emphasize investigation. With these DonorsChoose materials we need, students will discover that static electricity and magnets actually cause objects to move without touching. They will learn about magnet orientation that affects the direction of a force.

My class will really enjoy and learn from these new magnetic devices.

My Project

Using scientific ideas about magnets will give my students hands on experience in designing a solution to a problem about how a device functions.

These magnetic materials will make a great difference in my students' learning of how forces affect objects.

The cause and effect relations between two magnets will be discovered by my students while experimenting together in groups. One example could include developing a latch or lock used to keep a door shut or a device to keep two moving objects from touching one another.

The variety of magnetic tools that my class needs will create multiple learning experiences for them.
