Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My first-grade class contains 24 eager and bright young minds. Our school is a Title I bilingual program school where many students qualify for free or reduced-price meals and speak a language other than English. They come from different ethnic and social backgrounds. I have the privilege of educating inquisitive, thoughtful, and intellectually curious six-year-olds.
My students love to learn and love to show others what they've learned.
Despite the challenges they face at home, I am eager to provide them with creative and meaningful learning experiences where everyone is heard and made to feel empowered and important.
My Project
We are currently learning the meaning of place value in first grade. These math tools will make it easier for my little learners to grasp an important and difficult concept to understand. They will be able to use them in hands-on activities with me during guided instruction and independent practice. I am requesting enough place value disks, so I may make individual sets of ones, tens, and hundreds for each of my little learners. Magnetic wands will be used to find the magnetic chips from inside containers of rice. What better way to learn then by having fun with their little hands! Students will have loads of fun while searching for letters and numbers using a magical wand!
Access to these individual materials will help close the COVID-19 learning gaps in math instruction.
I am also asking for rice and containers for this activity.
Thank you for so much for supporting my students and their educational journey.
