My Students

I teach high school mathematics in a small rural school in Missouri. Most of my students have gone to school together most of their life. They have built a strong relationship and try to help each other.

My students do not have the same opportunities as schools around them.

However, they work hard and are proud for every opportunity they receive. Many of my students struggle with math but try hard to understand the content and help each other along the way.

My Project

In my math classroom, students currently have traditional desks. These desks are outdated and many students have a hard time placing their supplies on these desks without them falling off. They are also top heavy so they easily tip over. These desks were not designed to work well with collaboration which is very important in understanding mathematics. Certain learning activities are very challenging since these desks have a top that is angled and it is hard for students to lay their materials out on these desks. I currently have three of these tables in my room which will really help many students with collaboration but more is needed so that everyone can work with their peers to understand mathematics. This project will allow me to partially upgrade my classroom and remove 8 traditional desks and replace them with new tables for easier collaboration.
