Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a teacher in a low-income school where it is very difficult to get students the proper supplies they need.

My students face hardships every day of their lives.

When they come to school they want to feel safe, supported, and loved. They love coming to school every day and enjoy the challenge that learning provides.

Most of my students, unfortunately, are performing below grade level, and they will continue to fall unless they get the help and support they need.

My Project

Having math manipulatives, such as multiplication and fraction flashcards in the classroom for the students will give them a hands-on approach to learning. For many, math can be a difficult subject to grasp and understand. Being able to make math fun for the students will help enhance their engagement in learning. When students have materials that help guide their thinking and learning they are able to gain a better understanding of difficult concepts or topics.

Many of my students are part of our ESOL (English Second Language) program.

Some of whom have come over from Puerto Rico after hurricane Maria. They work hard every day to learn English. Trying to understand math concepts while having a language barrier can prove to be very difficult. By being able to gift them with items to make their work easier they will continue to work hard.
